Urban Growers

Throughout the unprecedented year that was 2020, with stay-at-home challenges, we have focused on our commitment to growing organic peppers and producing tasteful hot sauces.  We took time to celebrate our successes along the way.

In 2019, we spent that year organizing and planning for our family business.  We worked on our marketing ideas, began growing some of our first peppers (Jalapenos) and creating our products.  2020 was our first full year of operation, which started out pretty well. There were lots of exciting networking opportunities that enabled us to expose our sauces to the public. The reception from many was very positive!  Here is a quick re-cap of a few things we were able to do in 2020, in spite of several challenges!

  • Our Urban Grower Sauces were tastefully created by our executive chef & CEO.
  • Urban Grower sauces are flavorful and range in spice levels from mild to hot; earthy to fruity
  • We have used peppers that we grew in our Urban Gardens as we learned quite a bit, along the way! (we also used peppers from local vendors, when we were starting out)

Some of the Peppers we’ve been growing in our Urban Gardens Include:

  • Thai Hot Peppers
  • Habanero Peppers
  • Jalapeno Peppers
  • Cayenne Peppers
  • Carolina Reaper Peppers
  • Ghost Peppers
  • Serrano Peppers
  • and … still in their young stages, Chocolate Habanero Peppers.

We also had a pretty successful harvest of tomatoes, squash and cucumbers, that we did not use with any of our sauces – but offered some great lessons to us on growing food. Much of this was part of our initial discussions when coming together to launch our family company. Wanting to return to some of the practices of our ancestors, who grew up on farmlands in the South and continued to garden here in Los Angeles.

For 2020, our Urban Growers sauces were available for local delivery here in the southbay area of Southern California.  You could also buy them in our Online store – theurbangrowers.com/shop

We also inked a partnership with Temple Mini Mart & Beauty Supply, and our sauces can be found at all of their locations (currently Carson, and South Gate California)
